I am merely asking whether she did or did not?. I don't know. I presume she did not.

How was it you did not explain this compradore order in the Public Examination?.
I could not because I was continually being told off for saying more than I ought to, but you can see from the language I used.
You said you had a right to demand cash.
I had the right to pay this into my account, I cannot pay an agreement into my account.
I don't think anybody had the slightest idea, and I don't think anybody suggested that there was a com- pradore order in existence until today.
You will admit that there is nothing antagonistic to that in the statement.
I am not questioning the fact that the comprador. order will explain matters, but I do say that it is very XXXKKANEN regrettable that you did not say it before.
This compradore order, do you know what became of it?.
I presume it is also among the cash documents of the firm. Mr. Agassiz can tell you whether it is there or not.
The compradore made a special payment of $55,000.00 into the cash account.
Was that under security?.
It was under the heading of "Private Security". Were you drawing on the Compradore's security to pay the Company's debts?.
If the Compradore approves it would be perfectly legitimate.
Did he approve?.
The money remained under his control and if he dis- approved he need never pay it.
Do you know whether he approved or not?,
It was never paid as far as I know.
You say $7,000.00 was paid out?.
That was paid out of my own pocket.
So the Compradore security was the only way by
which the 48,000.00 could be met?.
At that particular time.
The $48,000.00 was met, if there was money paid out for the shares at all. we know these shares were taken up by Mrs. Brewer.
I can only say that I don't know that the compradore order was ever actually cashed. I am prepared to admit that at the time the only money in the firm that would have met it would have been the compradore 's money.
But I can say that it could not have been over without the consent of the compradore. If it was not cashed it was not met?.
A.
I consider that the compradore order was cashed. the company is prepared to accept its own cheque as cash, and I see no reason why it should not.

It is an order on the Compradore and not the Company The Hong Kong & Shanghai Bank will issue a compradore order as their own cheque.
I don't think they would issue one for $55,000.00 if they have only $9,000.00 or so in hand. That is another matter. Presumably before that com pradore order was issued to me the compradore's con- sent was obtained. I see no reason to doubt it.
